Hacienda Agro Bosque is a community-centered regenerative agriculture project in Ciales, Puerto Rico. We work to restore ecosystems, support local livelihoods, and promote sustainable food systems through cacao, breadfruit, and agroforestry.

This is what we can do, in just a year and a half!

Creating a New Model to Restore Land, Support Communities, and Feed People

Hurricane Maria revealed the deep levels of poverty and lack of food sovereignty in Puerto Rico. Conventional farming methods risk worsening both environmental degradation and economic hardship. At Hacienda Agro Bosque, we believe a different approach is possible.

By combining regenerative agriculture with an equitable agribusiness model, we aim to create a system that benefits farmers, communities, and consumers alike.

Our mission is to restore 67 acres of degraded farmland into productive agroforests using regenerative and climate-smart practices. Along the way, we will grow nutritious food, produce fine-flavored cacao, and create sustainable livelihoods rooted in the health of both people and the land.

How Does it work?

We use a regenerative farming method to restore the land. We plant native trees, plantains, pigeon peas, breadfruit and cacao to restore the forest. Shade is important to keep the maintenance low and cacao loves shade!
